A few years ago my girls and I started making salt dough ornaments, but as they are getting older we are trying new things with them. While they were busy making their own ornaments, I started playing with some of the left over dough….and it turned out really CUTE! The recipe I used is the basic one you find in google:
1 cup of salt
2 cups of flour
1 cup of water
Mix it all up, and then you can make it into whatever shape you want. You don’t want the dough to be paper thin, at least 1/4th of an inch thick. These are almost rock hard and very sturdy when finished. We were using cookie cutters to make our ornaments, and I used a heart for this one. Then, you just play with it and add the little snowmen on top, one little piece at a time. Make sure you poke a hole for the string!
You can add as many snowmen as you need, I just started adding the smaller ones to the top of the bigger ones like this:
After this, I placed them in the oven for a few hours on 200 degrees. You can flip them and put them back in or you can even let them airdry, but it takes a few days. After they are dry, you can paint them, write their names on them if you want, and then seal them with ModPodge. That’s it!
You can personalize these in any way, I even put a dog on one of them:
Good job! I love mine! Thank you, dear friend!
