These are some of my favorites. I love the blue and white contrast. Some of these were based on cute ideas i found on Pinterest and some were just trial and error. They could be made in any color or with any scene on the ornament. The separate picture of the snowflake is after I remade it, better, I think.

I start off with a nice blue polymer clay and then mix it with a LITTLE black, this makes the color a little darker. But make sure you mix in a little at a time, because you can always add more if it isn’t dark enough. You can see two different shades of blue below, it just depends on how much of the black you mix in.
The possibilities are endless, you could make any design you want. For the snowflake and the squiggly Christmas tree, I use an extruder (COMIART Clay Gun Extruder with 20 Unique Disc Designs, Professional Tools for Clay Pottery Sculpture & Polymer Modeling & Ceramic Craft & Fondant Cake (Big Size)), and I love it. It makes perfect, even strings of clay. I used the smallest size disc. Unfortunately I didn’t really take many pictures while making these, but I do have a separate tutorial on the snowflakes in another post.
After baking them, I seal all them off with a polymer clay sealant. You could use flat or glossy, depending on what you want to do with it. These ornaments have been some of my favorite that I have made so far.
These are beautiful! Do you use the glue, set the white pieces on it, or do you need to press the pieces into the base clay?
Thank you! I just set the white pieces on the base, and push them down slightly with my fingers. After baking it, I put a polymer clay sealant on it and I make sure to get it into all the little corners (that gives a little extra help to hold it all together).
Love these! Wouldn’t they make cute pins???
Thank you! Yes, they would!
They are beautiful!
Do you have a video of it?
I’ve always made gingerbread people Christmas cookies, then named each one and hung them in my kitchen bay window. It would be nice if I could make them in the polymer clay and re-use them each year. How would I get started doing it with the polymer?
Oh I love polymer clay! I think that’s a great idea to recreate your gingerbread ornaments. After you pick the color you are happy with (I had to mix 2 together to get a gingerbread color I liked for another project)., it is pretty much the same as a real gingerbread cookie. Flatten a piece out and use your cookie cutter to make your shape. And decorate! Don’t forget to poke a hole if you plan on hanging it that way (I have done that way too many times). Some brands of clay have different baking times and temperatures, but they will have it printed in the package. I do use a sealer (also in the clay section) after it is baked and painted (if you are painting it). I hope that helps.
Beautifully and so delicately done!
I actually like the first snowflake, maybe more. Being an artist who works with fine detail myself, I think I see why you weren’t as happy with the first one. I am a perfectionist too- but the more simple almost quilt block star is beautiful.
My point is they are all beautiful. I am a big fan of the blue & white theme and your use of it in polymer clay is something to be admired- it’s not an “easy” or even intermediate medium to work with, especially on elegant designs like yours.
Just lovely, I tip my hat!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you so much! I really like the blue and white theme too. One day when I have more time on my hands, I want to remake them with other background colors. One day.
These are really lovely, but how did you do it? Did you use an extruder or some sort of icing bag and tip? The white pieces are so tiny!
Thank you! Yes, I used an extruder (on the smallest setting) and then shaped/cut the pieces to size by hand.
