I make ornaments for friends and family every year, and I was looking for something a little different. I found this idea on Pintrest, using rocks as owls on a wooden base. I loved the ideas of the little owls, but I decided to put them in a polymer clay ornament.
First, I made the circle shape with my clay, and added the tree and branches. All of mine were different, because I made them specific to each family. Some had lots of kids, some no kids. I even made a little present on a branch for babies on the way. After the tree and branches were shaped, I took a little clay knife and ran lines up and down the tree, to make it look more detailed. Then, I just squished the rocks into the clay, and placed it into the oven (follow baking directions for whatever clay you are using).
The last thing to do was to paint them. I was slightly worried that the rocks may not stay in the ornament, but they are STUCK. I think this is a really cute idea for personalized ornaments for Christmas presents.
