Growing up in Germany, the Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market) was a big part of our Christmas every year. I still have family there, and I wanted to make some special ornaments for them. These hearts are a common thing in every Christmas Market, so I thought it would be a cute idea to copy them with clay.

I started with mixing some clay together to make it look like the color of the gingerbread. Then, using a cookie cutter, I cut out the little hearts. The decorations were a bit tedious, but you need a long, skinny strand of clay (I used an extruder – COMIART Clay Gun Extruder with 20 Unique Disc Designs, Professional Tools for Clay Pottery Sculpture & Polymer Modeling & Ceramic Craft & Fondant Cake (Big Size)).

Then, I tried to copy the little squiggly lines all around the heart as best I could. The letters were really time consuming, but I loved how they turned out.

Then I added some little decorations, based on a few pictures of the real thing. I think it turned out great, and I was really happy with it!
