We LOVE crazy hair day. I am so excited that this mohawk worked. I tried it last year, and it failed miserably. This time, I spent some time watching YouTube videos and got an education in how to do a real mohawk with long hair.

Of all three YouTube videos I watched, they all gave some different advice, so we kind of tried it all. Obviously we were not looking to shave my child’s head on the sides, so we pulled it into a really tight pony tail (sectioning off the middle for the mohawk). Then, taking one little section at a time, we teased the bottom of the middle section, slowly working upwards. This actually made it stand up pretty good on its own, even without any hairspray.

After teasing the whole middle section, I used about a whole can of hairspray (really) to make the rest of it stand up. For this extreme hairstyle though, I was not fully successful until I got out the hairdryer and used the hot air with the hairspray together. After a lot of hairspray and a lot of blow drying, it was a solid as a rock. I did use some gel also, especially on the sides, just to make sure that it wasn’t going to come down. We then used colored hair spray to make it fun (the best thing to do is to go right after Halloween and stock up on all the colors!). Believe it or not, she made it through the entire evening and it was still standing straight up by the time we were ready to shower it out.
