My girls have just watched some of the Harry Potter movies for the first time and they asked for a wand for Christmas. They each picked their favorite wands, and I got to work. I was REALLY excited at how awesome they turned out.

I started off with some nice chopsticks…I was going to try the ones from a restaurant, but they were too short and not as solid. I ordered mine through amazon (Chinese Natural Bamboo Chopsticks, 9.4″/ 24cm Long Lightweight Reusable Wood Chopstick Set For Eating Cooking -10 Pairs gift Sets Dishwasher Safe Color1(Upgraded Version)), you could use any size or kind you want. My hot glue gun is a cheap little thing, but so far it has lasted me WAY longer than I thought it would (Ad-Tech Mini Hi-Temp Hot Glue Gun Combo Pack, White). Here are the refills, I used A LOT of glue (Gorilla Hot Glue Sticks, Mini Size, 4″ Long x .27″ Diameter, 30 Count, Clear, (Pack of 1)). .

Harry’s wand was pretty simple…I started by layering the glue on the large side of the chopstick. It helped to turn the chopstick as the glue dried to keep it from drooping to one side. I was able to make the wand longer by holding it downward and letting the glue form a nice round end to the wand.

It took a lot of layers and patience for the glue to dry before adding the last layer, but eventually it got to a shape I was happy with. If the handle is a little bumpy, you can just smooth it out with the tip of your glue gun. It will melt it just a little and make it spreadable.

My original plan of using only acrylic paint didn’t work so well, so I used a random color spray paint for the base coat. THEN I was able to use the regular acrylic paint to paint it the color of the original wand. After it was painted, I sealed it using a clay sealant (I just figured it would help the colors to stay on longer). In the end, it turned out fantastic!
