To start with, I must say, I had NO idea what I was doing or how it was going to turn out. This was only my second try at a clay journal cover, but I love how it turned out. It was a birthday present for my oldest, she loves Darth Vader.

To start with, I just picked a random color polymer clay (one that I had a LOT of) and rolled a big ball out of it. To get the base of the journal cover, I used my clay press ( Mont Marte Polymer Clay Press ). It kind of looks like a past a maker. There was no way I could have rolled it so thin and even without it. I picked one of the thicker settings, just so it would be less breakable. I used a mold for his head, the rest of Darth Vader was shaped by hand.

Next, I shaped the body as best I could. I mostly use my x-acto knife for the details, for me it works better than some of my clay tools.

For the cape, I used my clay press. The thin long strip of clay was perfect for this, and you can fold it to look like it is flowing fabric.

Then I added the larger cape, and a light saber. After all the details were finished, it was ready to bake (follow the directions for whatever clay you used).

After it has cooled down, I glued it to the journal. I use E6000 230010 Craft Adhesive, 3.7 Fluid Ounces, it works well for me. Lastly, it was ready to paint and seal.

All done! My oldest LOVED her journal, I think it turned out great.
