We  made this piñata for my six-year-old’s birthday party. She could not decide between a seahorse and a unicorn, so we combined the two. That made her one happy birthday girl!

So unfortunately I did not do a very good job at taking step by step pictures. But making this piñata was pretty simple, so I will do my best to describe it.

First, you trace a seahorse shape onto a large piece of cardboard and then cut it out. An x-acto blade works the best for me. You also need a long strip of cardboard (3ish inches wide – or however wide you want it) for the sides. Then using a glue gun and LOTS of glue sticks, attach the long strip of cardboard to the seahorse.

After everything is glued together (except for a space to add candy), I poked two holes into the top for the rope.

Next I cut little slits into crepe paper and glued it around the outside of the piñata. For the fins, I used construction paper, folded into a fan shape. To attach it, you can cut a slit into the cardboard and push the bottom of the construction paper through the slit with some hot glue to make sure it stays. Last but not least, we made a glittery unicorn horn and attached it to the head. It turned out really cute!
